Built at the Dearborn factory and then shipped to Russ Davis Ford in Covina California on 22nd October 1969 this very desirable and wonderfully solid Mach 1 has spent it’s life in the Californian climate. We found the car advertised for sale in San Mateo California where it had been part of a small collection of muscle cars owned by Brian Copper. Interestingly, Brian had bought a garage repair shop in San Mateo from the retiring owner just to house and work on his collection, fully equipped with ramps, tools and compressor, it was an ideal place to safely store and maintain his cars. Brian explained he had bought the Mach 1 from Larry Foos, (no relation!) in Rancho, San Diego, about 11 years ago and apart from regular starts and occasional runs to local shows the Muscle Car had remained stored in the dry preserve of his new found garage. This is certainly borne out by the completely solid condition of the body and underside which are as good as the day it left Dearborn. Back in 2010 Larry had the motor rebuilt by the Mustang and Automotive Machine Shop in San Diego when the odometer read 41,348 and it now shows 43,307. It was rated then at 400BHP. To achieve this level of power the block was bored .40 over to 358 ci, 9.5:1 balanced pistons with Speed Pro Moly rings, Engine Pro Cam with Solid Lifters, Weiland Aluminium Single Plane intake manifold with large matching ports, Holley 650cfm four barrel carb, high output oil pump and a custom oil line supplying the rear cam and crank bearings. The M Code Quench, Open Chamber Heads, (also used on the Boss Mustangs) were fully reconditioned and with their large ports make this series of Cleveland engines extremely powerful. In addition a Petronix electronic ignition was installed to give improved starting and reliability. During the engine rebuild the entire interior was restored, a new “Humphugger” centre console installed along with additional instrumentation and a very clever custom designed kill switch for anti theft protection. The paint, fit and finish of this gorgeous and extremely powerful Muscle Car are outstanding, new door rubbers and body seals finish the job perfectly. The suspension has been lowered a fraction and extensively rebuilt just before Brian’s purchase. These 69 and 70 Mustang Fastbacks are arguably the best looking of all the true Classic Mustangs, they also provide a little more space inside than their earlier brothers and therefore suit the owner looking for that extra level of comfort. At the wheel the Mach is a joy to drive, powerful and raucous, as a true Muscle Car should be, it handles and brakes superbly and the superb paint finish seems to change colour in the sunlight giving red and gold hues in the varying lights. These are rare and rapidly appreciating cars and examples in this condition with this specification are very hard to find, so don’t leave your inquiry too long as we don’t expect this Mach to hang around! £55,750 Get In Touch Finance Available Don't forget to share on social media!
