The City of Fresno sits a little more than half way between Los Angeles and San Francisco on State Route 99 in the Central Valley of California.

Formed in 1885 as a Railway Station for the new Railroad serving the needs of the fast expanding industries and agricultural developments in this part of the West.

It now has a population of over half a million people and is a great hunting ground for well preserved Classic Muscle Cars due to the wonderful dry and warm climate.

Knowing this and the fact that some of the best car guys in California turn out truly great cars in this area we always focus closely on local ads and make a point of visiting local shows and swap meets.

Answering just such an advert led us to a meeting with the seller of this Muscle Car initially at the main shopping mall in central Fresno. This practice is common with sellers who are nervous of allowing strangers to come to their private homes until trust has been established.

So outside Lowes superstore, we saw the Electric Blue Mustang swing into the car park and make its way over to us at the pre arranged spot.

The seller was very friendly and laid back explaining he had owned the car for a long time and had gradually improved the Classic Mustang over the years adding high quality Willwood Disc Brakes and Alloy Wheels. He had a large history file backing up all the parts and work carried out and checking out the body closely confirmed it to be a really original and solid example.

We were invited back to his home where a colour matching S550 Mustang was parked in the huge double garage and we were told how the “Matched Pair” of Mustangs had been the source of much enjoyment but plans had now changed and one had to go!

So we agreed the purchase and left very happy with our latest acquisition.

The San Jose plant was less than 200 miles from Fresno and unsurprisingly this Classic Mustang had been built there back in the day.

1968 was the last year of production for the Gen 1 Mustangs and Ford had made subtle design changes which saw its latest model offer more comfort than had been available before. The deeper bucket seats afforded more comfort and support for the occupants and this example is no exception.

On it’s arrival at our works in the U.K. it was found to be every bit as good as described, this prompted us to consider returning the superb body work back to its original Wimbledon White finish. So with the decision made the body and brightwork was disassembled and prepared in our own body shop before being repainted to the highest standards by our award winning team.

The results are simply stunning and this C Code 289 Coupe with its uprated Carburetion, Brakes and Air Conditioning has to be one of the sharpest examples available.
