Here we have another special Mustang for the guy that wants the classic Mustang look with the addition of huge power and style.
This Mustang was born in 1965 at Fords plant in Dearborn Michigan. It left the factory as a C code, which denoted it was fitted with a V8 2 Barrel carb engine and the body was a hardtop coupe. The V8 and Hardtop coupe are the only similarities that exist now after restoration and the fitment of so many refinements.
When Alan Vanconant of Bakersfield California decided to invest in a classic Mustang his first thought was to find a good solid car. He found this one where it had been living in Southern California for most of its life, a good solid rust-free example. This was going to be his starting point for what we see here today. Bakersfield and the surrounding area are mainly agricultural, but in this location, there are many “car guys” who work with their local speed shops. It is not uncommon to find cars like this Mustang where the cost of the work far exceeds the end value of the car. Mechanically Alan spent a considerable amount, fitting a 351 Windsor V8 engine with a Performance camshaft and induction setup with 5 speed Tremec gearbox. To add to this modern air conditioning and power disc brakes, front and rear were also installed. We also replaced the standard Power steering with an all new electric power steering system, which fitted discreetly gives a modern feel whilst driving. The performance of this Muscle car is exhilarating and is also matched by the stopping power and handling.
The Mustangs bodywork is Rhodium silver, the chrome mirrors, bumpers and chrome surround show these colours off superbly. An Eleanor style grille also features at the front, giving the car the menacing look. The stunning mettalic grey and silver alloy wheels with the chrome spinner just finish off the overall wow factor. The large bore twin exhaust’s exit through the rear valance as per the GT, the note from these pipes when idling is a deep burbling, and on the throttle, well you can imagine!
A slight glance through the window will show the superb leather interior. This has been designed to coordinate with the exterior bodywork. The whole interior has been restored from headlining to the carpets. A modern Retro-sound chrome period look stereo is also installed with blue tooth connection. The modern air-con system keeps the cabin cold, should the car be headed for a European Tour.
Under the bonnet stands the 351 proudly dressed in Aluminium rocker covers and a large colour-coded pan air filter with a Holley four-barrel carb hiding underneath. A set of racing headers helps the 351 breath correctly into the stainless exhaust. Electronic ignition if fitted for reliability and a huge triple-core aluminium radiator is there to keep it cool in the desert heat.
Having lived in the warm climate al it’s life the floors chassis etc are solid throughout and as a result the Mustang comes with our two year underbody corrosion warranty .
The car was driven by our Director Adrian after purchase some 145 miles to our shippers at Long Beach California and he thoroughly enjoyed the drive-in total comfort. This car has the look of the classic Mustang but also has the power, stance, and handling of a later modern car. This car can be driven easily around town or a long drive, but also has the sound and power when needed!
