Whilst built at the Dearborn Plant on February 28th 1968 and supplied by River Oaks Ford of Calumet City, this Mustang soon found its way to the dry valleys of the Phoenix area which have preserved its structure incredibly well. We found the car in the hands of Michael Voels and his wife Rustie in the San Tan Valley area of Arizona, a very dry, hot and up and coming area some 45 minutes south-west of Phoenix itself.

Michael had recently opened his own Realtor business and was working all hours so with very little time to use their prized Mustang he had decided to sell “Scarlett”. The Voel’s had owned this Classic Mustang for over seven years and had brought the Classic Ride back to is former glory and indeed some way beyond.

The car still has its original date code correct 289 Engine, original Manual Transmission and Rear Axle, the original factory installed Air Conditioning and the Privacy option which includes tinted windows.

The Air Conditioning system has been completely updated from the bulkhead forward and now runs on R134a, however, the original York Compressor is available if the new owner would like to keep it.

The Engine has been updated to run on Unleaded Fuel with hardened valve seats in the heads, it also has a new Comp Cam, Performance Rocker Arms, Edelbrock 600 CFM 4 Barrel Carburetor sitting on an Aluminium Edelbrock Performer Intake and Edelbrock Aluminium Performance Cylinder Heads that have been ported and polished.

Ignition is via an Electronic Mallory High-Performance Distributor, Edelbrock provide the air filter and a Custom 3 Core Aluminium Radiator keeps the car cool under any conditions. Finally, a Chrome Export Brace gives additional stiffness to the suspension and body up front.

Both Gearbox and Final Drive are original and overhauled.

The Exhaust has also been upgraded to dual Flowmaster ’50s and with Mid Length Hooker Headers which give the car a deep baritone rumble and that bit of extra throttle response through the Chrome Tail Pipes.

The suspension has also been upgraded to KYB Shocks in front and Monroe-Matic air shocks to the rear which give the car a fully adjustable and aggressive stance. Finally, a new set of BF Goodrich Tyres mounted on Alloy American Racing polished wheels really finish “Scarlett” off superbly.

The interior of the car is truly amazing, retaining the original back seat upholstery but with Dash, Door Cards, Headlining, Carpets and Front Seats all having been replaced. New speakers, kick panels and an aftermarket centre armrest with drinks holders is a nice tasteful addition to the period correct “cockpit”

Inside the trunk has been fully carpeted, there is a full-size spare wheel.

The body which is incredibly solid has been beautifully refinished in a top quality Candy Black Cherry Metallic which has been Clear Coated and polished to the very top end of the spectrum. Over the gorgeous base coat are two silver fade out stripes running the length of the car which changes from silver to a deep, flake silver and is highlighted by red pinstriping.

The paint and chrome were professionally done by Rolling Canvas Customs in Scottsdale AZ at considerable cost!

This is a superbly presented car that had won many awards at shows Mike & Rustie had attended and really turns heads wherever she goes. Scarlett retains all the original parts where it counts and has been further upgraded by Pilgrim Motorsports with Power Disc Brakes and Power Steering which give much-improved braking and driveability.

There is also an extensive file of receipts and invoices for works carried out by both Mike and previous owners which will come with the car.

A Marti Report will be provided to the fortunate new owner, all UK import duties and taxes have been paid and “Scarlett” has been Mot tested and is registered for road use here in the UK and abroad.
