Get A 1968 Shelby Mustang GT500!

As soon as I took the call, I knew something had happened. The voice on the other end I knew well: it belonged to Paul, owner of Muscle Car UK. He sounded tired, yet happy. There was a tremor of excitement in him I hadn’t heard in a while.

“A fantastic car,” he said. “Absolutely fantastic.”

Because, ladies and gentlemen, Muscle Car UK had just welcomed home this beautiful 1968 Shelby Mustang GT500:

About the 1968 Shelby Mustang GT500

Just a quick note on this legendary car series. Originally designed by Shelby American, the focus for the Shelby Mustang GT500 was very much performance over comfort. The earliest GT models were often called ‘Cobras’ after the similar paint scheme and Cobra emblem, despite the Mustang tag on many models. By the 1967 redesign, Carroll Shelby achieved his goal of differentiating the car from the Mustang off of which it was based.

Styling upgrades gave the car a more aggressive appearance, with a longer fibreglass hood and new fascias, working scoops and spoilered tail. Wide tyres and suspension tweaks meant it handled better than all except pure sports cars. Interestingly, and as it became notorious for, the threatening look of the car was deceptive: heavier than, say, the Cobra Jet Mustang (one of Shelby’s earlier releases), it was less well suited to the racing track. But that certainly didn’t slow the racing heartbeat of onlookers.

Specifications for Shelby Mustang GT500

The 1967 model was renamed GT500 KR. The initials ‘KR’ refer to what Shelby called ‘King of the Road’. The original cars can make 435 hp with 440 lb⋅ft (597 N⋅m) of torque at 3,400 rpm.

Why You Should Grab This 1968 GT500 While You Can

  1. They’re super rare. Only 1000 of these cars were made. That’s not a small number, but you’ll be hard pressed to find a remnant that is rust-free with original parts.
  2. The name speaks for itself. You can put a Shelby next to any other car that is legendary in its own right (such as the Nissan Skyline GT-R) and people will always gravitate towards the Shelby. It’s magnetic like that.
  3. It will only ever appreciate. The value of such a classic will only ever go up. In that sense, it’s an excellent investment.
  4. We flawlessly restored it. We are Muscle Car UK, the biggest mustang dealership in Europe, and in no false modesty, we’re the best at what we do.
